I hope you are enjoying the beautiful weather we’ve had recently. Did you turn on the air conditioning? Do you believe it – we had to put them in and on before June 1! With summer approaching, our activities and meetings will get a little more relaxed, and I hope you will join us as often as possible. First, let me update you on some past events and then we’ll get to the future.
EASTER EGG HUNT
The Easter Egg Hunt on April 9 was a bit of a challenge. The weather forced us inside, and it seems that it forced a lot of families to stay home. We had a small group of children, but they really had a great time. Besides hunting for eggs in the Squad Room, they played several carnival-type games up in the Library, complete with prizes. Of course, the Easter Bunny paid us a visit and had pictures taken with the kids. Our apologies to all of the parents who
had to deal with the “sugar-highs” afterward.
Hey, the kids had fun – it’s all worth it!
SAFE HARBOR
We do not have a date to supply another meal yet, but expect to do at least one meal for them this summer. We declined an opportunity in April and May, due to our involvement in Relay for Life.
RELAY FOR LIFE
Speaking of Relay….it’s over and we did great. Congratulations to all members of our team and their fabulous fundraising efforts. Auxiliary members Dianne Plaugher, Joan Burton, Patti Toner, Karen Dunn, Brenda Miller, Cheryl Meacham and Donna Dunn were joined by family members and friends to walk the track at Downingtown West High School for 24 hours. We had near perfect weather, though a little chilly at night, and everyone had a good time. We were honored to be able to walk in memory of Marcia Corry, an FOPA member and daughter of Brenda and Don Miller. We thank Brenda and Don for joining our team this year and helping us to honor her memory. Marcia’s daughters, along with some friends, were also on hand to walk the track with us. Please keep all of them in your prayers as they continue on this difficult journey. Now…the REALLY good news is, we more than doubled our fundraising goal of $3,500! The final results are not in yet, but it looks like we could be very close to $8,000! Congratulations team, and thank you for all of your efforts.
DON’T FORGET CARTRIDGES FOR KIDS
Another reminder to continue to save your empty printer cartridges, fax cartridges and used cell phones and put them in the collection box in the Squad Room. All donations will be sent to “Cartridges For Kids” who will then send the proceeds to Easter Seals in the name of the Auxiliary. We appreciate your help!
JUNE MEETING
Our June meeting is, as always, the fourth Wednesday in June (28th), and will be a little different. We’ll have a short meeting, and then we’ll be having a Tastefully Simple party. If you are not familiar, we’ll be tasting a multitude of dips, desserts, and beverages which are made from mixes. The products are delicious, and most of all, EASY! The meeting will be at 7:00, with the party starting at approximately 7:30. Hope we’ll see you there, and bring a friend or two! Please let me (Donna) know if you will be attending so that our consultant has enough food.
JULY PICNIC MEETING
On July 26, our annual picnic and meeting will be at the home of Cheryl and Steve Meacham in Thorndale at 6:00 PM. It will be a wonderful time to relax and reflect on the many good things the Auxiliary has accomplished this year. Please call Donna Dunn at 610-269-5255 if you plan to attend and we’ll let you know whether to bring an appetizer, side dish or dessert. The Meacham’s also have a pool, so bring your bathing suit and pray for good weather.
NO AUGUST MEETING
As in the past, we will not have a meeting in August so that everyone can attend the FOP Picnic. We’ll get more information out as the date gets closer, or check the FOP Website for details.
Have a safe and relaxing summer! Hope to see you at one of our summer “meetings”.
